Season Change = Beauty Routine Change

Do You Really Need To Switch Up Your Beauty Routine Seasonally?

You’ve heard that with the season change, you should take a close look at your skincare routine and adjust your products accordingly. But is this really true or just a ploy used by the beauty industry to get you to buy more products? Well, it might be a little bit of both. Read on. Switching your skincare products when the weather changes – and the degree to which you should do so - are dependent on a few different factors. So, here are some questions to ask yourself as the seasons change, to determine what's right for you.

What type of skincare products are you already using?

Do you buy your skincare products at the drugstore or the esthetician’s office? Are your current products backed by science and proven with scientific studies? Skincare truly is a case of “you get what you pay for.” If you have been investing in scientifically tested skincare that includes the latest technology available (think stem cells!) all year round, then it is highly unlikely you will have to change much, if any, of your skincare with the season. At Stemology, our products contain numerous active ingredients that are not found in any other singular product. For example, our Serum Complete addresses all 12 signs of facial aging, not just one or two! This means that our products treat more skincare issues than most and can easily change with you, and with the seasons.

What type of climate do you live in?

The amount you need to adjust your skincare routine as fall and winter approach is directly correlated to the amount the weather in your area changes during this period. In cities where the weather goes from extremely humid and hot in the summer, to freezing and snowing in the winter, healthy skin requires substantially more maintenance than in a climate that is 70 – 75 degrees year round. If you are in a drastically changing climate, help your skin adjust to drier winter weather with a moisturizer that increases skin hydration and improves its moisture barrier, contains stem cell derivatives, antioxidants and ingredient “helpers” that assist in the delivery of these highly potent active ingredients. Our Cell Renew Moisture Complete does all of this and more!

What type of skin do you have?

The onset of fall and winter mean that weather gets cooler and dryer. Most of us will spend more time indoors with the heater on, sucking out what’s left of the moisture out of our skin. If your skin is on the drier side naturally, it’s important to up your moisturizer game during the colder months. If your skin is naturally a bit oilier, you may want to adjust your toner or treatment product for fall instead. Skin can become more sensitive in the fall and winter, so it is a great time to include a toner in your skincare routine. Look for one that is alcohol and astringent free, which will help minimize irritation for those with more sensitive skin.

What did you do this summer?

Your summer activities directly affect your seasonal skincare adjustments – both positive and negative. Did you spend a lot of time out in the sun? If so, you may be noticing more sunspots – or what we call hyperpigmentation – than you had in the spring. Now that the majority of your sun bathing time is behind you, pick up a brightening serum to help fade sunspots and even out your skin tone. But beware of products containing hydroquinone, a harsh and potentially harmful chemical lightener that has been banned in most countries. Further help your skin repair from summer’s damage with a moisturizer specifically formulated to assist skin in normalizing from environmental aggressors, inflammation and free radical damage. I recommend our Cell Renew EnviroExpose Repair and Restore Crème. Remember, investing in your skincare year round is what will lead to ongoing healthy, glowing, skin. Be smart about the products you purchase and make sure they are giving you the results you desire!
